The Widow's Might Organization was founded in 1991 in Jinja, Uganda, by a missionary widow who had lost her husband, John Sanford, in a plane crash while serving in Tanzania, East Africa.

God sent a widow, Fern Sanford, to Uganda; she was visiting missionary friends. She had compassion for the widows in Uganda.

At that time, HIV/AIDS was rampant in Uganda, and being a country with polygamous families, when one man died, three or more women became widows, and their children became orphans.

Fern Sanford went to be with the Lord on 8th December 2000.

Widow's Might ministry continued with Monique M. Ladosz, who was also a widow and was already a friend of Fern Sanford, helping her get prayer partners on the USA side for widows who knew how to read and write English.

Monique had come to visit Fern Sanford in Uganda for the first time in 1994 and was led to start Widow's Might in Rwanda since she was a French-speaking widow, and widows and orphans in Rwanda needed God's comfort and encouragement after the genocide. She served faithfully until 12th September 2020, when she also went to be with the Lord.

The ministry of Widow's Might continues with the Ugandan nationals, some of whom have been serving since it was founded.
